Patrick and I sort of have these anime phases where we watch anime non-stop for a while and then don't for a while. Well we happen to be in one of those watch anime phases and one of the ones we started watching is Shakugan no Shana.

We got this one sale online for a pretty good deal. When it came in the mail (with a ton of other anime) I thought this was the most interesting box. Patrick heard from his friend that it was pretty good.
I was in an anime watching mood and so we started watching it, we watched about 2-4 episodes a night.
It was kind of hard to watch at first because you felt bad for the guy main character and I personally didn't like the girl main character, but the story was interesting you were kind of wondering what is going to happen next.
So this story is about a boy (Yuji) that witnesses this monster that suck up souls for some reason he can walk around when these monsters freeze a part of the town to suck up random souls. The monster start attacking him and a girl (Shana) saves him.
Yuji finds out that Crimson Denizens (bad guys) sent the monsters to collect not souls but existence (I know sounds weird, just stay with me for a bit) and Crimson Loads (good guys) send Flame Hazes to stop the Denizens. Shana is a Flame Haze.
When a Denizen monster attacks people and take their existence - they die. Flame Hazes stop this from happening but more over they try not stop the disturbance of the balance of Earth so when a large number of people get their existence taken, Flame Hazes replace the people that died with torches which act in the place of these people and they slowly disappear and fade from other people's memories.
Yuji has a special gift and helps Shana battle Denizens through out the series. Shana through the series learns to deal with her emotions. She also becomes a lot more likable as the series progresses.
I personally thought the ending of this series was good and it tied a lot of loose ends. I would definitely suggest this to other people.

Shakugan no Shana is a story about the paranormal; about the 'real' world that exists outside our perception of reality. It is a story about the yin and yang; the delicate balance between good and evil and it's effect on the human existence. It is a story about discovering the meaning of love. It's also a story about swords, explosions, creepy incestuous children, and boobs. so, it's basically like any other anime! ^_^
Seriously, though, Shana is a pretty good mix that is entertaining and fun to watch. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece, but definitely not unwatchable. The premise of the story is that Yuji, the male protagonist, find himself suddenly killed and placed in an alternate reality where a battle rages to keep balance of some sort to the Earth. Eh, I don't recall exactly what they are balancing. Anyway, there are these beings called Flame Hazes that are sort of like these supernatural police officers that go around fighting Denizens that would upset said balance. Shana, the main female protagonist, is one of these Flame Hazes.
Shana, being a Flame Haze, is bound by their duty and are supposed to show no emotion. Yuji, who is dead, should be nothing but an object to be used or discarded by Shana. The back story is how Shana and Yuji's relationship evolves as the series progresses. At some point, a Shana must make a decision between Yuji and her duty to protect the world. Which will she choose? (Add tense music here)
This is a pretty good one to watch. It's not too deep, but it's not mind numbingly shallow. It's just right. My only complaint it the ending. Total cop out if you ask me! Oh well.
